A UK company has gone into the production of Manuka honey and has produced it's first batch and has already sold out despite it's £55 per 113gm price tag.
The Cornish company has been growing and cultivating the Manuka bush in the UK since 1888 and since the hype of the medicinal purposes of Manuka Honey have investing in building building 20 special hives designed to maintain the correct temperatures and humidity for the quality of production.

The estate company claimed the £55 price tag was justified because its 100,000 bees were housed in the 20 hives claimed to be worth £5,000 each and had the exclusive run of the garden's Manuka bushes. The honey was launched in April at the Chelsea flower show and despite it's price tag has already sold out. The honey was neither certified or tested with any of the current standards in place.

Manuka expert from New Zealand Kerry Paul, chief executive of honey health science company Manuka Health New Zealand, said he was incredulous at the gullibility of British consumers and offered to test the Cornwall honey for levels of the active ingredient though was sceptical. “If consumers are expecting that honey to have the antibacterial properties which genuine Manuka honey is famous for, I’m afraid they will be disappointed,” he said. “Sadly, this is yet another rip-off of genuine Manuka honey which consumers around the world need to be alert to.”
There was much doubt with the amount of Manuka honey in each jar which he said it was obvious that the honey had come from mixed sources.

There is a big difference in the density of the New Zealand forest compared to the British countryside there is masses of the Manuka Bush growing wild which is uncultivated thick bush where the honey is being harvested. There is no comparison in the product and unfortunately a lot of people have been mislead. For 1/4 of the price you could have twice as much honey which has been imported from the opposite side of the world which has been clinically tested and certified. Making the price tag totally unjustifiable. The product is totally inferior and massively over priced the fact that this product has been sold with out any testing is diabolical.
